Welcome
Welcome to this new weblog. This site was built to ensure that residents in St Michael's Ward, Camberley, get to have their say on decisions currently being taken which will have the potential to have a dramatic impact on their quality of life.
Although very few residents are currently aware of it, Surrey Heath County Council is currently consulting on whether to turn Doman Road into what they term "a site for waste development". In practice, this means the site could be used for almost anything in the future, including the construction of a waste incinerator. Furthermore, if waste development status is granted now, future facilities could be built with a minimum level of public consultation.
It is vital that as many people as possible tell the council why they don't want Doman Road to be considered for the construction of waste disposal facilities in the future. Councillor Melanie Longden, who represents the citizens St. Michael's Ward on Surrey Heath Borough Council, has drawn up a petition for residents who wish oppose the area near their homes being made a waste site. A public meeting to ensure residents are informed about the issue has also been organised.
Public Meeting - Friday 24th March
7:30 pm
Baptist Church, Frimley Road
Camberley
7:30 pm

The consultation period is very short - it only runs until 10th April. It is therefore vital that you act as quickly as possible to make your voice heard. If you have any questions about this website or the proposals, please do not hesistate to contact us.

Bad for Chobham but OK for Camberley (as long as it is in St Michaels Ward)
Need to make residents aware that any waste comes from all over Surrey not just Surrey Heath
For those of us who are not fully aware of the dangers of waste incineration, the Greenpeace site gives some interesting information - see http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/contentlookup.cfm?SitekeyParam=D-D&CFID=639758&CFTOKEN=43090599&MenuPoint=D for further information. I think re-cycling is a good idea and the Council should be encouraged to provide improved facilities so that more of our waste can be recycled. And this is what they are doing here. Why are you complaining?
It was made clear at the meeting on Friday that there would be no incinerator in Doman Road.
There was a statement from the leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council, that said "No Incinerator". There was a statement from the recycling person up there saying "No Incinerator", there were two councillors from the ruling group saying "no incinerator". OK, so it's not an incinerator - must be recycling or something. Sounds like a good idea. Will getting us off this list stop a new recycling centre? Travelling further will mean more congestion, CO2, accidents and less recycling. Can't believe Mel would want that. Surely?
It seems unlikely that Doman Road will be used for recycling in the sense that most of us are familiar with. The Wilton Road amenity site in Camberley, where most of us take our glass, garden waste, cardboard and other items we want to recycle, is about to be closed for 6 months, during which time it will be completely upgraded at considerable cost, to meet the needs of the community. This upgrade will ensure that the site can cope with the recycling needs and rubbish disposal for the foreseeable future. Also, what’s with all the secrecy? It’s become clear that discussions have taken place between SCC and Surrey Heath Borough Council about the site, why should residents only get a chance to comment once the decisions have been made behind closed doors? Don’t the people who are posting hostile comments want open democracy and meaningful input from residents before it’s too late to influence plans that will have an impact on their community?
Dear All
Is it just me or can someone explain why these incinerators have
to be built on top of residential
areas, with little regard to green belt land, wildlife, people, and
mother-inlaws.
Why cant we all stand up and lobby the P.M. no not Prescot and ask that common sense prevails by building incinerators on major transportation links on industrial sites.
This is common practice and law for all manufacturing processes.
An Incinerator is manufacturing plant
Michael Press Virginia Water.
The original brief from Surrey County Council to the external consultants (ERM) when looking to locate thermal waste plants (the politically correct name for an incinerator) was to find sites outside the Green Belt. County would then avoid difficulties with the planning system. That is why Heather Farm in Chobham (Green Belt and politically sensitive)) was dropped when Councillor Vivienne Chapman, in December 2005, suggested Doman Road. Before that time Doman Road had not been considered mainly because it was too small. Now that Surrey Heath have given extra land to the County it is an ideal site and in terms of the original Surrey County brief makes perfect sense. Doman Road is in an existing waste facility within an urban area, has excellent road access via the Blackwater relief road and is now large enough. It now fits the original brief better than any other site in Surrey, including Clockhouse Brickworks at Capel.
It is better suited than the site at Trumps Farm in Runnymede which is the so-called second preferred site (Capel brickworks is 1st). Trumps Farm is in the Green Belt and has a poor road network. In fact the County's own experts ERM, opposed using Trumps Farm because of the poor roads. Because it's in the Green Belt and considered unsuitable by the County's own experts, Trumps Farm protesters are confident the Secretary of State's public inquiry will refuse it being used as a thermal plant waste facility.
The very best wishes to Doman Road protesters. Not only should no incinerator be put there but the current facility should be moved out of the area.
